A recent TED-Ed lesson explaind how playing an instrument benefits your brain

This lesson published by TED-Ed highlights the many benefits of making music. Furthermore, a NAMM statistic suggests that 80% of adults who don’t play wish that they did. Whether you’re 5 or 75, there is no time like the present to start playing a musical instrument.

When you listen to music, multiple areas of your brain become engaged and active. But when you actually play an instrument, that activity becomes more like a full-body brain workout. What’s going on? Anita Collins explains the fireworks that go off in musicians’ brains when they play, and examines some of the long-term positive effects of this mental workout. TED-Ed

TED

TED believes passionately that ideas have the power to change attitudes, lives, and ultimately, the world. This underlying philosophy is the driving force behind all of TED’s endeavors, including the TED Conferences, TEDx, TED Books, the TED Fellows Program, and the TED Open Translation Project.
